ALX-106 / Josef Anders

I produce and perform and DJ house music under the name ALX-106 and Live improvised techno under the name Josef Anders. Based in Denver, CO.

The Missing Link is a staple of my studio / performance rigs. I use it to wirelessly sync my modular and portable gear to my recording computer across the room. If I choose to use a laptop, its already in sync with Link. No stress. Ultra convenient for getting back to work in the studio quickly after traveling for a gig with gear.

I travel a lot and play tons of gigs, but my studio is my happy place.

Taking gear from it to go play live can be a big disruption. The daunting task of setting stuff up just to leave again can cause me to not practice, not record, and just not play.

The Missing Link makes it so I can get home, plug in audio and start recording immediatly, in sync with my computer and all of my other gear.

The table in the middle of the room is my current live performance rig. Lately all my time has been on this rig. I'm using The Missing Link Junior to sync that to the recording computer that sits behind it and the modular can send individual outs to my interface for multitrack recording. The Missing Link is feeding analog clock straight to the modular as well as the 1010 Blackbox, which I prefer using analog clock for over MIDI. I just love that I can use stackables to get the clock wherever I need it. The Digitakt 2 is then synced through MIDI. The Blackbox and the modular are mixed using the WMD Performance Mixer Mkii and the Channels expander for it.

I have that entire mix running through the Digitakt right now so I can sample random things I make and want to chop up. Not sure if the Digitakt is there to stay, but its so nice to just use The Missing Link Junior to sync up any piece of hardware with my modular and then know when I hit record on my computer, I'm recording in sync.

I have the ML:2M in my big studio case so whenever I want to use that for sound design or plug in another piece of hardware without having it hardwired to the computer, it gets connected to that. All of the big hardware synths and the SP1200 are hardwired to the computer via a MIDI interface. The studio is the most fun when everything is on and playing a different part. Then, I can just hop on the drums and jam whenever I want as well. Those are all mic'd up and ready to go so all I have to do to get drums is mute the monitors, throw on some headphones and hit record. The space is really conducive to just letting go and having fun.

If you hear any breaks in my house or techno music, there is a 99% chance I recorded them here.
